Five questions with Natasha Martell

Southwest regional community and education program manager for Intel Corp.

Gary Gerew, Special to NMBW October 19, 2012

Intel was a sponsor of the recent International Symposium on Electronic Art in Albuquerque.

If someone just happened to see a van completely covered with cameras drive by last month, how would you explain to them what the International Symposium on Electronic Art was?

The International Symposium on Electronic Art is an exciting course of events that highlights the creative intersection of art, science and technology. This event brings together international perspectives and a culturally diverse audience.

Why does Intel think it’s important to be a sponsor for ISEA?

Fostering innovation is in our DNA at Intel. ISEA brings together scientists, artists, students and communities to share new interpretations of technology and art. We were thrilled to support 516 Arts and all the other community members that set the stage in New Mexico to share innovation at its most inspiring.

What do you hope people came away with after attending the symposium in Albuquerque?

I hope that people experience the myriad ways that technology impacts our expression and our lives. ISEA offered an entire day of forums and discussion for educators, sharing how art and technology can be used to support 21st-century skills like collaboration, creativity and innovation.

Some businesses say they can’t find workers with skills for existing jobs. The symposium stressed exploring creativity. Is there a way educators can help students meet both goals?

Focus on fostering 21st-century skills such as critical thinking and problem solving. We all share a role in helping our students

One item on the symposium agenda called for sending tweets to a planet that’s 22 light years away. Did you send a tweet? If you didn’t, what would you have liked to say?

I didn’t send a tweet, but my message would be: “Hellooooo! Intel is connecting and enriching lives on earth ... and excited to make this connection with YOUR planet! Have you experienced the new Ultrabook??”
